Delicious desserts

Gustaf Boman, our friend at Tackolov, walked through our doors with two bags of strawberries for this photo shoot. Yummy! Art directors planning delicious desserts are always welcome at Bsmart as the final results are often consumed on site. These desserts turned out to be extra long ice cream boats. Not a bad day at all.

This tasty summer lager did not even need to show up for the photo shoot. The labels are 3D renders that were retouched together with the bottles.

Coureurs de fond

Our french might not be fluent, but we do know that a bowler’s hat and running shoes are an odd mix. Luckily, Aestroem’s art director Jan Ragnartz was there to explain. When it comes to ‘coureurs de fond’ (managing your assets for the long run) it seems CPR does just that, but apparently, ‘coureurs de fond’ also means long distance runner. C’est la vie!

No models were harmed

‘The seal’ requires knee pads, or at least a low friction surface. But our pleasantly natured models did not mind. John Doe Worldwide came up with this winning idea for Skandiabanken, winner of ‘Best trustee savings bank’.

January Of Love

Intervet, manufacturers of animal pharmaceuticals, needed to update its image bank with a specific look. Aestroem gave us the brief – a documentary feel with a clear focus regarding the notion of friendship between humans and pets. It was essential to capture how we are affected by our friends and how they feel. Locations and models were required in both Stockholm and San Fransisco so casting became one of our first priorities. After a week of shooting in a freezing Stockholm we were ready for a week in San Francisco – it was the hottest January on the West Coast since 1968. Things soon became pretty hectic, at home and in California. 2-3 models every day and a time difference of 6 hours pushed production schedules to the limit. The results though were well worth it. Art director Jan Ragnartz of Aestroem, with his extensive experience and reliable eyes, teamed up perfectly with photographer Hans Carlén. The result – one hundred striking shots and some pretty good stories to tell as well.

In love with art glass

Creative director Johan Ronnestam was working with Kosta Boda to help promote their brand to a slightly younger generation. It was all about the ‘loving struggle’ to obtain the glass and the idea was to create a ’swarm’ of hands around the object. To achieve this we made thousands of exposures and worked on different poses and shapes of hands. It soon became obvious that the art director, photographer and retoucher needed to be on the set at the same time. Simultaneously we continuously updated a rough retouch to make sure that things were on the right track. Sketching with low resolution images became a trademark for this project. Each of the final images required around 30 hours of retouching and each file, including all the layers, increased to around 8Gb. One of the original ideas and final achievements was for the glass piece to act as a source of light within the image and its glow to reflect onto the hands. We think that the final images shine too.

Beautiful food

When it comes to creating beautiful editorial food images for lifestyle magazine Amelia, photographer Hans Carlén and stylist Sanna Fyring Liedgren form a perfect duo. Sanna, who runs her own company ‘Matbruk’, also creates her own recipes, and even has a house and a garden full of beautiful props and backdrops.
