Double Rainbow Up North

Skoda – DDB

Norrbotten is the northernmost region of Sweden and covers almost a 1/4 of the country’s surface but is sparsely inhabited by just 2,5% of the population. It is known for its natural scenery: old wild forests, large rivers, rocky mountains and an untouched vast wilderness. Commissioned by DDB, our photographer Kalle von Hausswolff went there location scouting to capture the enormity and beauty of Norrbotten.

For this location scouting assignment I flew to Luleå in the North of Sweden and then drove several hours straight into the wilderness. I could not help but think of the movie ‘Into The Wild’ as I left the mobile phone reception and passed a road sign saying ‘Here ends the public road’.
I could never have foreseen or fully estimated the greatness of the Northern nature and its magnificent landscapes of steep hills and tranquil lakes that are filled by small waterfalls coming in from the surrounding mountains. Everything was so quiet and peaceful, yet visually impressive and overwhelming.
The weather shifted quietly between clouds, rain and sun. Rainbows appeared as if from the ground and all the time there was no wind. I sat down by the waters edge and drank from the crystal clear waters while the light rain created small circles on its surface.
